Establishment of the Register of Inspection Supervision in Sarajevo Canton Soon

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Head of the Office for Combating Corruption and Quality Management of Sarajevo Canton Erduan Kafedžić and Director of the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs of Sarajevo Canton Fahir Halilović, in the presence of anti-corruption advisor Eric Larson, signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of combating corruption today.

One of the most important provisions of this memorandum is the establishment of Registers of Inspection Supervision, conducted by the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, over the work of institutions founded by Sarajevo Canton, or institutions with which the Office cooperates.

“By establishing this register, we will get an index of which institutions most frequently violate laws, as well as an index of the laws that are most frequently violated. In this way, we will be able to identify specific institutions and individuals who dominate in law violations. This will later initiate amendments to certain acts that would allow such individuals and managers to be removed from their positions,” stated Head of the Office Kafedžić.

This new register will be integrated into the Office's existing information system. Data that is currently scattered will be centralized, allowing for continuous monitoring of the situation regarding law violations.

“In this way, with the help of the Register, we will be able to rank the ten institutions that most frequently violate laws and as many managers who do so with just one click,” stated Kafedžić.

The Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs will quarterly provide the Office with data on inspection supervision, which will be entered into the Register. This information will be shared with the Assembly and Government of Sarajevo Canton, as well as the public, all with the aim of creating additional pressure to ensure that those who violate laws are sanctioned and removed from their positions.

According to the Director of the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs, Fahir Halilović, cooperation with the Office has existed previously. Today's Memorandum represents a formal framework and the creation of a platform for continuing that cooperation. As the signatories emphasized today, the goal of these activities is for the numerous imposed fines and sanctions to finally lead to concrete individual responsibility.

Once mechanisms for the dismissal of those who constantly violate regulations are introduced, both prevention and the fight against corruption in the public sector in Sarajevo Canton will be raised to a higher level, and a quality Register will be the basis for such action.

Advisor Larson emphasized that this is another example of integrated investigations, and while praising the document signed today, he also announced further signings of similar documents in the future for the purpose of prevention and combating corruption in Sarajevo Canton.
