25 new houses occupied in Željezo Polje

The construction of 25 houses has been completed in the settlement of Donja Golubinja in the municipality of Žepče, and families moved into their new homes today, writes the BH news agency Patria.

The ceremonial opening of the new settlement in Donja Golubinja was attended by the Ambassador of Switzerland to BiH Heinrich Maurer, the Mayor of Žepče Municipality Mato Zovko, the Director of CRS Marc D’Silva, representatives of the companies Wienerberger and Tondach, and representatives of the local community of Željezo Polje.

Mustafa Čović from Željezo Polje lost his house in a landslide during last year's floods.

- I am extremely satisfied with these houses and what has been done here. These people here are the happiest people in the world today, and we sincerely thank all those who built us new homes – said Čović.

The new houses will serve as a replacement for what was destroyed in the floods and will provide a home for 40 families. Caritas Switzerland has also renovated part of the water supply system and 5 hectares of berry plantations.

- Just recalling last year, the natural disaster, the state of emergency, and the damage, primarily to houses and roads, and when I return to today, I don't know who is happier, me or these people here. On behalf of the municipality of Žepče and all the beneficiaries, I sincerely thank all the donors who helped these people move into houses today, and I wish all the beneficiaries to live in good neighborly relations and for their new homes to bring them happiness - stated the Mayor of Žepče Municipality Mato Zovko.

The continuation of the remediation of the consequences of the natural disaster has been announced from the municipality of Žepče.

Željezo Polje, municipality of Žepče, a community with about 4,300 inhabitants, was severely affected by floods in which about 80 houses were completely destroyed, the water supply system was severely damaged, and traffic communications were interrupted.
