Awarding of seasonal ski passes to the most successful skiers opened the ski season on Bjelašnica

(Patria) - Ministers in the Government of Sarajevo Canton Kenan Magoda and Zlatko Mijatović, and the director of “ZOI84” OCS Jasmin Mehić today awarded seasonal ski passes on Bjelašnica to the most successful ski and snowboard clubs from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This also marked the opening of the ski season on the Olympic mountain Bjelašnica.



A large number of competitors represented their clubs on Bjelašnica today, and a total of 128 ski passes were awarded to children from registered clubs in the Ski Association of FBiH, specifically to ski racers in the disciplines of alpine skiing, snowboarding, and parasnowboarding.

Director of “ZOI84” Jasmin Mehić thanked the relevant ministers for their support, stating that in addition to direct support through the awarding of ski passes, they also have support in organizing competitions.

“We can say that in the past few years, we have rebuilt a strong base of domestic competitions on Bjelašnica. Within the next 15 days, we will announce the calendar of events, i.e., competitions on Bjelašnica. This year, we have enriched the artificial snowmaking system, we have received 35 new snow cannons, we have made many investments on the slopes, and we have prepared new slopes and infrastructure for future cable cars. It is an honor for us to build and maintain the spirit of winter sports together with the Government of Sarajevo Canton and the relevant ministries,” said Director Mehić.

Minister of Culture and Sport of KS Kenan Magoda emphasized that the continuous support of the relevant ministry is certainly a strong motivation for the development of competitive skiing, as well as a motivation for our young competitors to achieve good results.

“The commitment of the Government of Sarajevo Canton is the development of the Bjelašnica and Igman mountains, both in terms of infrastructure and through cultural and sports events. This season, we will host a Europa Cup race, and we should be proud and talk about the beauty and significance of our Olympic beauty Bjelašnica, and cherish what we have. We are strategically working on serious matters and will do everything to ensure Bjelašnica has quality year-round content,” Minister Magoda stated.

Minister Mijatović stated that the relevant ministry is clearly committed to the further infrastructural development of Bjelašnica and Igman.

“Since I have been heading the Ministry of Economy of KS, we have concluded agreements worth around 30 million KM. Some of them have been realized this year, and some will be realized during the next year. An important step that we must achieve in the coming period is the adoption of a new zoning plan, or rather, the amendment and supplement to the existing zoning plan from 1982. It is truly necessary for further development, and if we adopt it, which I am sure we will, we will get new cable cars, gondolas, and ski slopes, which will enrich this area. This is very important from a sports and cultural aspect, but also from a tourism and economic aspect,” said Minister Mijatović.

After the awarding of ski passes to young competitors, a meeting was held with club officials on the topic of organizing ski and snowboard competitions in the 2023/2024 winter season.
