Scholarships and laptops awarded to children of Srebrenica and its surroundings

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The association "Movement of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves" today awarded scholarships and laptops to children from martyr and financially endangered families. 

The award ceremony was organized at the Bosniak Cultural Center "Adil Zulfikarpašić" at 12:00 PM, and the president of the Association of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves, Munira Subašić, said that she has the support of the author of the Srebrenica flower, Prof. Mensur Bektić, and the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, and that this year she can make children happy and award scholarships and laptops.

"Every year we receive support from the author of the Srebrenica Flower and from the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton. Children contact us, write us requests, and thus we already have potential scholarship recipients in mind. Our priority is children living in large families, and then talented children from all over Eastern Bosnia," said Subašić.

The author of the Srebrenica silver flower, Mensur Bektić, said that children from socially vulnerable categories have been receiving scholarships for five years and that this practice will continue in the future.

"This is the fifth year that scholarships are being awarded to students from socially vulnerable categories from Srebrenica and its surroundings, selected by the 'Movement of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves'. 14 scholarships will be awarded, each in the amount of 500 and 700 KM. The Srebrenica Flower is a symbol of a new beginning, and we wear this flower as a reminder for all generations," stated Bektić.

The deputy president of the Movement, Kada Hotić, said that this event is important for children but also for donors.

"This event is important for our children, who are in the process of education, but also for our esteemed donors, who remembered to do this important thing for all children with a lower social status," added Hotić.

 She thanked Professor Bektić, who, through the Srebrenica flower, a symbol of Srebrenica, uses the income from it to award scholarships to a number of students each year. 

Enisa Jakubović, a student of philosophy and sociology at the University of Tuzla, stated that her hometown of Nova Kasaba has not been forgotten, after everything it has endured in the past war. 

"This is a gesture that the people from where I come from, the town of Nova Kasaba, have not been forgotten, after all that it has been through. The scholarship we received will give us a greater chance to build a better future," said Jakubović.
