Despite warnings, swimmers are also present on the rivers

Bosnia and Herzegovina is not yet experiencing extreme heat, but stuffy weather and high atmospheric pressure are driving citizens to seek refreshment, writes the Patria News Agency.

In addition to city beaches and lakes, some are also using rivers to cool off. Such a case was recorded yesterday in Sarajevo near Vrbanja bridge, where a group of boys were swimming in the Miljacka.

However, the Public Health Institute warns that in the upcoming season, it is not advisable to freely spend time in nature in flooded areas, or to swim in rivers and lakes.

- Regarding river waters, they are contaminated as they are in normal conditions, but there is a large infestation of mosquitoes in all those areas from which the water has receded. Disinfection or fogging operations against mosquitoes are being carried out with the support of colleagues from Croatia, which will destroy about 20 percent of the mosquitoes that can, at a certain moment, transmit certain viral diseases - said Željko Ler, director of the Public Health Institute of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
