Warning to take preventive protection measures against heavy rain and wind

(Patria) - The Cantonal Civil Protection Administration of Sarajevo Canton has issued a warning to legal and natural persons to take preventive protection and rescue measures against heavy rainfall and strong winds.

They state that according to the forecasts of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute, heavy rainfall accompanied by strong gusts of wind and hail are expected in the period from July 21 to 23 in the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo Canton.

They add that the Institute has issued a yellow warning for local showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and increased wind and hail for the period from July 21 at 4:00 PM to July 22 at 11:59 PM, and that locally 15 to 35 liters of rain per square meter may fall, and wind speeds of 45 to 65 km/h are expected.

- All legal and natural persons are warned to immediately take the necessary preventive measures against rainfall and strong winds in accordance with their jurisdictions and obligations prescribed by the Law on Protection and Rescue of People and Property from Natural and Other Disasters, for the protection of human health and lives, as well as material and cultural goods (prepare adequate forces and material-technical resources for a rapid response to the announced rainfall and strong gusts of wind), as this will create conditions for a more efficient and faster response of all subjects of the protection and rescue system in a comprehensive response to potential challenges and threats from floods and strong gusts of wind, and thus avoid major material damage, as well as possible injuries and human casualties - stated the KUCZ.

They particularly appeal to legal entities carrying out construction work not to leave objects that could fall from roofs of buildings, construction scaffolding, etc., due to strong winds, thereby endangering the safety of passers-by.

- We also appeal to citizens not to leave objects on their balconies and other open spaces that could endanger the safety of passers-by due to the wind, not to park their vehicles near large trees, and to avoid excursions and spending time in nature during the period of the yellow warning - appealed the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration.

They particularly appeal to municipal civil protection services in the Sarajevo Canton to immediately put their organized protection and rescue forces on alert, so that they are ready as first responders to react in accordance with their jurisdictions and obligations according to protection and rescue plans to potentially heavy rainfall and strong gusts of wind in their municipalities.
