FUCZ Warning: Spring is Coming, and with it an Increased Possibility of Finding Mines

(Patria) - The Federal Civil Protection Administration warns that with the arrival of spring and melting snow, the risk of finding unexploded ordnance (UXO) and mines increases, thus drawing attention to the necessity of proper and safe behavior in such situations.

"As the spring work period is a time of frequent discoveries of explosive devices, we especially warn vulnerable groups - farmers, construction workers, collectors and processors of secondary raw materials, as well as hunters, hikers and excursionists that in case of finding a mine or UXO, they should not touch it, but report the found device to civil protection by calling 121 or the police by calling 122. It is especially important to clearly mark the location where the device was spotted, preferably take a photo and remember the location so that they can show it to the competent explosive ordnance disposal team," the FUCZ announced.

They also draw attention to those who conduct daily activities outside populated areas and in nature not to move through areas they do not know in order not to wander into minefields.

"We appeal to them to be careful and to respect the posted mine danger signs so as not to endanger their own safety, because disrespecting, destroying or removing these signs can be fatal for someone. The Federal Civil Protection Administration has trained personnel and material resources, and is ready to undertake all necessary activities to protect citizens from mines and unexploded ordnance. However, for this mission to be fulfilled, we ask citizens to behave in accordance with these instructions and report all suspicious objects to the mentioned phone numbers - 121 and 122," the statement said.
