Meet the Sarajevan whose rose syrup was served at Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's wedding?

At the wedding of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, held at the beginning of September this year, guests were also served rose syrup, which was specially delivered from Bosnia and Herzegovina for this occasion, many world media reported.

And that the world diva was indeed enchanted by the rose syrup was confirmed to the BiH news agency Patria (NAP) by Vedad Njemčević, whose rose delicacies Jolie had tried before, during her visit to Sarajevo in 2010, and was already delighted with them then.

Njemčević is the only BiH producer of rose syrup, who professionally engages in this business, and who is trying to rescue this traditional recipe, which was once an integral part of Bosnian and Herzegovinian cuisine, from oblivion.

- I cannot confirm whether it was specifically my syrup that was drunk at the wedding of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt – Njemčević told Patria.

- But, I don't see whose other rose syrup it could have been at that ceremony, because besides me, at least not in significant quantities, no one else in BiH produces it.

Njemčević recalled how his assistants, when the diva visited Sarajevo four years ago, took rose syrup from him and served it at the Brass hotel where Jolie was staying.

- I remember it was quite late, I think they even woke me up from sleep and asked me to prepare rose syrup for Jolie. I did it with pleasure, and later I received a message that she was delighted with the taste of the syrup – Njemčević recalled.

Njemčević started his sweet business with roses seven years ago. From a few traditional rose bushes, which are almost forgotten in BiH, he quickly developed a real plantation not far from Sarajevo. Now there are so many that he has to pick their petals almost every day and prepare them for delicacies.

- My syrup is mainly sold in national restaurants in Sarajevo, or other well-known catering establishments, and it is not uncommon for a bottle of rose syrup to end up in another country from these establishments – says Njemčević.
