(Patria) - A group of employees of the University of Sarajevo has launched an initiative aimed at urging the UNSA Senate to issue a statement and take an official stance on the events in Palestine.
The open letter, as explained, will be sent to the Senate with the signatures of university staff, and the goal of the initiative is for the oldest university in Bosnia and Herzegovina to express its institutional position on this matter.
The initiators note that universities in the region and Europe have already spoken out on similar topics, including the Senate of the University of Ljubljana, and believe it is important for the University of Sarajevo to demonstrate academic solidarity and moral responsibility.
Signing the open letter is available exclusively to UNSA employees via faculty email addresses with the unsa.ba domain, and only such signatures will be recognized. The process lasts until September 26, 2025, at 11:59 PM, after which the letter with all signatures will be forwarded to the Rectorate.
As stated in the letter itself, the Senate is expected to clearly define its position regarding the events in Palestine and, in line with the tradition of the University of Sarajevo, affirm the universal values of protecting human rights and international law.
The open letter with its content and list of initiators is available via the online platform for signing.
