Fear paralyzes a person, it is a product of the unknown and insecurity, and often despair, and the inability to react. Now I wonder what from the offered determined Šefik Džaferović (SDA) to offer a statement today that foreshadows trouble!
Šefik Džaferović's statement, in which he calls on the High Representative not to be afraid and to act in accordance with Dayton, perhaps best shows the depth of the political defeat of Bosniak politics, and perhaps fear, which fortunately we did not have in the nineties when we defended ourselves from the aggressor! It is paradoxical that the frightened Šefik encourages the lost Schmidt.
“I call on the High Representative not to be afraid of the action being taken against him and I call on him to act in accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement, because Parliament is prevented from doing its job,” said Džaferović.
Not so long ago, when the only option was to prevent SNSD and HDZ from discussing the abolition of foreign judges from the Constitutional Court of BiH, delegates from the Bosniak Club resorted to the then necessary, albeit unpopular, method - blockade. It was a way to protect the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina. They need to protect them today, but certainly not by invoking the High Representative! Because that is not a vision for progress, it is a weakness that costs us dearly.
We remind that even during the blockades of the Bosniak Club, some invoked Schmidt to act. And SDA members from the Bosniak Club almost faltered from fear. But then the news came from Brussels, a diplomat who warned that the fate of BiH should not be decided by violent interventions that ignore the will of the people and legislative procedure.
It was encouraging at the time that the EU was actively working to prevent possible political experiments that could endanger peace and stability in the country.
Diplomatic sources clearly stated that the European Union will not allow the practice of punishing disobedient politicians by revoking their mandates to be introduced in BiH.
However, today Džaferović, instead of articulating his own strength and vision, addresses as a whiner, not as a representative of a people who have the right to sovereign decision-making. And as time passes, it seems there is less and less sovereignty! Džaferović is therefore clear proof that a person must know when it is time to retire, because the deeper he enters his twilight years, the more his political reflexes and courage weaken.
When Ilija Cvitanović (HDZ 1990) shows a different attitude and more political determination, it is clear why Bosniaks are increasingly a political people.
Because, Džaferović today did not have a statesmanlike tone, but a tone of subordination. While Milorad Dodik roars, strikes, destroys, and sets the pace of political struggle, SDA and its cadres continue the policy of waiting for someone else to do what they dare not even say.
So how long? Is it not clear that only a defined and decisive policy, a policy that shows strength and self-confidence, not one that begs for a reaction, succeeds?
If SDA is truly a state-building party, why does it run away from responsibility and constantly seek protection in the figure of the High Representative, who, with his earlier impositions, sent them into opposition and ignored the will of the people.
What we heard today is not a call to courage – it is an admission of powerlessness and a lack of readiness to take responsibility. I just wonder if all those who advocate for Schmidt's action are ignoring the danger of anti-democratic action that is contrary to the interests of BiH and European values.
Does SDA have the strength to say that if Dayton's BiH does not function, we should move towards returning to the Constitution of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, recognized in 1992.
