UPFBiH ahead of the session of the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament: Adopt the amendment to the Law on Electric Energy

(Patria) - The Association of Employers of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina calls on delegates in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of FBiH to urgently adopt the Proposal for the Law on Amendments to the Law on Electric Energy in the Federation of BiH in the same text as adopted by the House of Representatives.

This Proposal for Amendments to the Law on Electric Energy in FBiH is on the agenda of the session of the House of Peoples of the Parliament of FBiH scheduled for Wednesday, December 29, 2021, and its consideration is foreseen under an urgent procedure. It is of key importance that the House of Peoples adopts the amendment to the Law in the identical text as the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament.

Namely, the proposed amendment to the Law on Electric Energy in FBiH gives the Government of FBiH the possibility to limit the growth of electricity prices on the market. The adoption of the amendment to the Law would enable the Government of FBiH to adopt a decision at its session on Thursday, which will limit the growth of electricity prices for the economy. We remind you that since September this year, companies in the Federation of BiH have started receiving supply contracts which increase the price of electricity by up to 350 percent.

The Association of Employers of FBiH has been warning for months about the devastating consequences of such a drastic increase in electricity prices for the economy, which would ultimately be felt by citizens through increased prices of goods and services.

During negotiations with representatives of the Government of FBiH and the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry, it was established that it is necessary to adopt amendments to the Law on Electric Energy in FBiH so that the Government can react and limit the growth of electricity prices on the market.

The House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament unanimously adopted this amendment to the Law last week, and it is now necessary for the House of Peoples to adopt the amendment in the identical text, so that the Government of FBiH can react in a timely manner and adopt a decision on limiting the growth of electricity prices on Thursday, as most companies' electricity supply contracts expire on December 31, 2021.
