UPFBiH: EP BiH sends companies contracts with electricity price six times higher than in 2021

(Patria) - The Employers' Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was shocked by the actions of the Management of the Public Enterprise Elektroprivreda BiH, as well as by the lack of reaction from the competent institutions to the arbitrariness being carried out.

"Although both houses of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH adopted an amendment to the Law on Electricity of FBiH, which authorizes the Government of FBiH to limit the increase in electricity prices to 20 percent compared to the previous year, and which entered into force on 6.1.2022, EPFBiH is not acting in accordance with the decision of the Parliament of FBiH.

Namely, in the last three days, the Public Enterprise Elektroprivreda BiH has delivered contracts for backup electricity supply for 60 days to numerous companies, the price of which is up to six times higher compared to last year. And, allegedly, from 1.3.2022, they will send contracts for regular electricity supply, which would, again allegedly, be in accordance with the Law on Amendments to the Law on Electricity in FBiH.

According to information available to UPFBiH, even the new contracts will not be in line with this Law, because Elektroprivreda BiH will transfer all risk costs to the electricity buyer. By acting in this way, the Management of Elektroprivreda BiH is directly circumventing and violating the decisions of the highest legislative body in the Federation of BiH – the Parliament of FBiH and the provisions of the law amendment adopted by the deputies and delegates of both houses of the Federal Parliament", it is stated.

UPFBiH will hold a meeting of its members on Friday, 28.1.2022, to discuss the new situation and make decisions on further activities of UPFBiH and companies in FBiH whose electricity supplier is Elektroprivreda BiH. UPFBiH expects an urgent reaction from the relevant Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry of FBiH and the Government of FBiH to stop the arbitrary and illegal actions of the Management of Elektroprivreda BiH.
