Alarm sounded: High air pollution expected in the coming days

Given that a situation of excessive air pollution is realistically possible in Sarajevo Canton in the coming days due to current weather conditions and announced temperature inversions, the Expert Team for Coordination and Monitoring today declared, based on Chapter 4, Point 1 of the Intervention Measures Plan in Cases of Excessive Air Pollution in Sarajevo Canton, Episode I – READINESS for Sarajevo Canton, reports the Patria News Agency.

This episode requires all legal and natural persons in Sarajevo Canton to act in accordance with the measures prescribed in the Intervention Measures Plan for Sarajevo Canton, as well as according to the Internal Plans in Cases of Excessive Air Pollution in Sarajevo Canton.

At the same time, all risk categories of the population, including individuals with cardiovascular diseases, respiratory system obstructions, convalescents, preschool children, the elderly, and pregnant women, are warned to reduce their activity, especially during morning and evening hours.

Drivers are also urged to minimize the use of personal vehicles, which particularly applies to owners of older vehicles that emit significantly higher levels of harmful substances into the environment.

The decision to lift the "Readiness" episode or to potentially declare the next episode will depend on the situation on the ground, which is being continuously monitored.
