Ahead of tomorrow's session: Ginkel and Izetbegović on Southern Interconnection, US Special Envoy Joshua Volz also arrived in BiH

(Patria) - Chargé d'Affaires at the United States (US) Embassy in BiH John Ginkel met today with the President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović.

The Embassy announced on the X platform that during the meeting, they discussed the Southern Interconnection gas pipeline and broader cooperation opportunities on shared economic priorities of the US and BiH.

"Strengthening Bosnia and Herzegovina's energy security and expanding economic ties between our two countries remain central goals of the United States.

The United States values continuous dialogue with partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina and looks forward to further progress on these shared priorities," the US Embassy stated.

The SDA also issued a statement regarding the meeting between Izetbegović and Ginkel.

During the talks, as emphasized by the party, full support for the Southern Gas Interconnection project was reiterated as key to diversifying supply sources and ensuring energy security for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Important issues necessary for the adoption of a modified legal solution that ensures a mutually beneficial concession for the Federation and the US investor were discussed.

One of the issues that will need to be resolved is the use of state property. This would create conditions not only for the efficient completion of the Southern Interconnection project but also for attracting a number of significant investors from the US, as well as other countries.

In this context, Izetbegović emphasized that two principles must be respected. The first is that property belongs to the state in accordance with the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the second is that the property is efficiently put into function for construction and development without the possibility of any blockades.

Part of the discussion was also dedicated to the current political situation, with Izetbegović specifically warning about the attempts by Milorad Dodik and his regime to present a false picture of relations in our country through lobbyists in the US, claiming the "endangerment of Christians," rewriting historical facts, and a series of other untruths.

These false narratives create additional tensions and undermine stability, which is a prerequisite for foreign investment and economic development, Izetbegović stated.

In a post on the X platform, which followed shortly after the one concerning the meeting with Izetbegović, the Embassy announced that Chargé d'Affaires Ginkel welcomed US Department of Energy Special Envoy Joshua Volz to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As stated, during his stay in our country, Volz will meet with a number of BiH officials to discuss the expansion of energy cooperation between the US and BiH.

It should be noted that Ginkel's conversation with Izetbegović, as well as Volz's visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, are taking place the day before an extraordinary session of the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament.

And on the agenda of the session, only one item will be considered under urgent procedure - the Proposal of the Law on Amendments to the Law on the "Southern Interconnection Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia" gas pipeline.
