BHRT Board: A permanent solution for financing BHRT must be found

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The BHRT Board of Directors once again calls on state institutions, all relevant and competent authorities to urgently engage in resolving the problems that threaten the extinction of the public media service in BiH.

"The Independent Trade Union held a warning protest yesterday, the existence of more than 800 workers and their families is in question, and previous attempts by management at multiple addresses and institutions to reach an agreement on unblocking the accounts have failed.

The outcome of today's session of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH is awaited, where a parliamentary initiative to unblock the account by the Tax Administration of the Federation of BiH will be considered.

We remind you, BHRT was brought into this situation due to multi-million debts of entity televisions. The law adopted by the founders - the state parliament - is not being respected, and the money from the RTV subscription fee is not being paid or distributed.

With the extinction of the public service, BiH will be left without the only light and voice in European program exchange, and without another fulfilled condition for BiH's entry into the EU. 

We call for agreement, resolution of the situation and urgent action... we call on the state Parliament, the Council of Ministers of BiH to launch initiatives for finding a permanent solution for financing BHRT and paying off debts to this broadcaster.

Without a public service, BiH cannot be a functional state that aspires to become part of the European family as soon as possible. BHRT has always been a voice of reason, professionalism and independence.

Let us get involved, react and help it remain so. The BHRT Board of Directors is open for cooperation and agreement to resolve the crisis as soon as possible and for the public service to start functioning normally", stated the BHRT Board.
