UNSA intensifies preparations for marking 30 years of remembrance of the Srebrenica genocide and the Dayton Peace Agreement

(Patria) - The University of Sarajevo is intensively preparing for the central commemoration of two important anniversaries: the 30th anniversary of the genocide in and around Srebrenica in July 1995 and the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

The commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the genocide in and around Srebrenica in July 1995 will be held from July 1 to 3, 2025, and will include a multi-day interdisciplinary international conference, as well as a series of scientific and artistic content that will contribute to preserving memory and education about the genocide.  

Activities marking the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement will be implemented from November 21 to 25, 2025, and will also include a series of scientific and artistic content.  

For the purpose of organizing and implementing a series of activities, a Coordination Committee has been formed, consisting of the chairperson, the rector of the University of Sarajevo, relevant vice-rectors, and: Prof. Dr. Sead Turčalo, Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences, Dr. Sci. Muamer Džananović, Director of the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law, Prof. Dr. Zinka Grbo, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Sci. Sedad Bešlija, Director of the Institute for History, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ahić, Dean of the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies, Prof. Dr. Adnan Busuladžić, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Mr. Faruk Lončarević, Dean of the Academy of Performing Arts, Prof. Dr. Dubravka Pozderac-Lejlić, Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts.

The goal of these activities is, through scientific and artistic engagement, to ensure lasting remembrance of the victims of genocide, and to promote universal values of peace, justice, and human rights. The University of Sarajevo, as the leading higher education institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, aims through these activities to contribute to preserving the memory of the victims of genocide, as well as understanding the importance of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond, and to education and promotion of universal values of justice, peace, and human rights.
