Universities from BiH ranked worst in the region, while authorities still want two schools under one roof

Not a single university from BiH holds a high position on the list of best universities, according to the latest research by the public research center Webometrics from Spain. The best ranked is the University of Sarajevo, but it is only in 1,820th place. The University of Tuzla is in 3,186th place, and the International University of Sarajevo is in 3,463rd place.

There are eight public universities in BiH, and close to 30 private ones, but none of them are among the top hundred universities according to this research. They are not even among the top 500.

When it comes to the region, the best-ranked university, according to this research, is the University of Ljubljana, which is in 286th place. After the Slovenian university comes the University of Zagreb, which holds 479th place on this prestigious ranking list, followed by the University of Belgrade in 536th place and the University of Novi Sad, which is in 886th position.

- In Bosnia and Herzegovina, we are dealing with the system of two schools under one roof, or tribal organization of teaching, at a time when we have the worst situation in education in the region - wrote journalist and political analyst Almir Terzić, reports Patria.

- It is not surprising that we have one-third of the population that is illiterate or semi-literate - he added.

The best university in the world is Harvard, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, the University of California-Berkeley, the University of Michigan, Cornell University, the University of Washington, Columbia University-New York, the University of Pennsylvania, and Oxford.

Among the top 20 universities in the world, as many as 17 are American higher education institutions, and the other three are in Great Britain and Canada.

Among the top 100 universities in the world are also universities from China, Switzerland, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Singapore, Australia, South Korea, Germany, Mexico, Norway, Finland, Belgium, Denmark, Hong Kong, and Italy, reports Patria.
