University of Sarajevo Promotes 81 Doctors of Science and Arts

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A ceremonial promotion of doctors of science at the University of Sarajevo was held on Thursday, 21 June 2018 at the National Theatre Sarajevo. Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Rector of the University of Sarajevo, vice-rectors of the University of Sarajevo, and deans of faculties and academies promoted 81 candidates to the title of Doctor of Science and Arts.

Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, expressed pride in the effort and energy the candidates invested in their academic and scientific advancement and development, and expressed satisfaction that the University of Sarajevo is promoting a new generation of doctoral students whose knowledge and skills represent an invaluable asset and potential for Bosnian-Herzegovinian society.

- Encouraged by your experience and following the demands and needs of society and the labour market, the University of Sarajevo is continuously working on improving 92 doctoral study programmes at its organisational units. We look forward to new experiences and assure all interested parties that the University of Sarajevo has the necessary human resources to support new generations of university lecturers and researchers in satisfying the innate human curiosity that lies at the very core of scientific thought - emphasises Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, stressing that doctoral students at the University of Sarajevo play a key role in the development of Bosnian-Herzegovinian reality.

The University of Sarajevo holds ceremonial promotions of doctors of science and arts twice a year – in June and December as part of University Days. Striving towards a knowledge society, the University of Sarajevo today promoted: 12 candidates to the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences, 10 candidates to the title of Doctor of Medical Sciences, 5 candidates each to the titles of Doctor of Sociological, Health, Historical, and Legal Sciences, 4 candidates each to the titles of Doctor of Pedagogical and Biological Sciences, 3 candidates each to the titles of Doctor of Economic, Agricultural, and Chemical Sciences, 2 candidates each to the titles of Doctor of Literary-Historical, Pharmaceutical, Islamic, Literary, Educational, and Veterinary Sciences, 1 candidate each to the titles of Doctor of Journalistic, Political, Communication, Library, Food Technology, Mathematical, Dental, Biotechnical, and Administrative Sciences, and 1 candidate to the title of Doctor of Musical Arts.

On behalf of the doctors of science and arts of the University of Sarajevo, Dr. Sandra Bjelan-Guska, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, addressed the audience.

- Today's promotion speaks to the capacity of the University of Sarajevo, to the strengths and opportunities our country has. Through our doctoral dissertations, each from the perspective of their scientific discipline, we chose to focus on humanity. In a time of giving up and leaving, we are one more argument for investing and staying here.

The artistic part of the programme was enhanced by the choir of the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo, which performed the academic hymn "Gaudeamus", and a performance of the musical piece by Dario Vučić: MIR opus 28, a solo song for voice and piano (premiere) interpreted by soloist doc.
