Part of UXO found in flooded areas destroyed

Intensive removal of unexploded ordnance following unprecedented floods that hit Bosnia and Herzegovina was carried out by explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) disposal teams for ordnance found in flooded areas. Part of the UXO removed in the past few days from areas that were underwater was destroyed on Friday, June 6, 2014, at the Crijetež destruction site in the municipality of Goražde.

The destruction was carried out by EOD teams Sarajevo A and Goražde A, destroying 68 hand grenades, 11 artillery shells of calibers from 76mm to 155mm, 5 mortar mines of calibers 82mm and 120mm, 6 rifle grenades, 7 anti-personnel fragmentation mines, 3 kilograms of explosives, 7 pieces of anti-aircraft ammunition from 12.7mm to 20mm, and one anti-tank rocket.

The Federal Civil Protection Administration appeals to citizens to be particularly careful when carrying out activities near rivers or streams, not only in flooded areas but throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the number of unexploded ordnance brought by recent floods to populated areas or their vicinity has increased.

All observed unexploded ordnance and mines can be reported by citizens to Cantonal Civil Protection Operational Centers by calling 121, so that the competent team can be dispatched to the field, according to the statement from the Federal Civil Protection Administration.
