UN BiH: Glorification of war criminals, incitement to violence prolong the suffering of victims

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Following the recent inter-ethnic incidents in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina has also issued a statement.

“The United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina express concern over a series of incidents that have occurred in recent days in Bijeljina, Prijedor, Foča, Gacko, Višegrad, Brčko District of BiH and other places, which include glorification of crimes and war criminals, calls and incitement to violence, damage to inscriptions paying tribute to victims of the Srebrenica genocide, and other offensive acts against those who survived heinous crimes.

Such events have no place in a democratic society. They permanently prolong the suffering of survivors and families of victims, who deserve respect and compassion. The United Nations call on all relevant levels of government and institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina to ensure that necessary measures are taken to prevent and act against the continued recurrence of any manifestations of discrimination and hatred, which only fuel feelings of insecurity, anxiety and mistrust. The people of Bosnia and Herzegovina deserve to live in an environment of mutual understanding, respect and dignity.”
