Retired Yugoslav general Veljko Kadijević died in Moscow at the age of 89. He was at the head of the JNA in 1991 when military operations were conducted in Vukovar and Dubrovnik, for which he was indicted in Croatia, and the Ministry of Interior of Croatia had previously issued an arrest warrant for him, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

He had been living in Moscow since 2001, and in 2008 he received Russian citizenship. He fled the country when he received a summons from the Hague Tribunal in 2001 to appear there as a witness.

After the end of World War II, Kadijević graduated from the Higher Military Academy of the JNA and the War School of the JNA, according to Serbian media. He also trained in the USA, where he graduated from the US Army Command and General Staff College in 1963.
