Faux fur for a glamorous touch in your home

This sensual material has long been a big trend on the catwalks, and it will increasingly appear in homes. Designers have decided to replace the cold, modern ambiance with a new trend that exudes comfort, while appearing both luxurious and inviting.

- We are returning to slightly more luxurious interiors, with decor that is pleasant to the touch and looks great, says Erin Gates, an interior designer from Boston, and author of the bestseller “Elements of Style”. “For a long time, style has been minimalist, modern, and appeared cold. People now want their homes to be as cozy and comfortable as possible,” adds the renowned designer.

Faux fur appeals to designers and decorators who are animal lovers.

However, before you buy everything furry, read the interior designers' tips on using faux fur for a touch of glamour in your home.

1. Add faux fur to a space that needs texture.

Designers usually add faux fur to a neat, clean, and somewhat sterile space to make it more comfortable and inviting. You can use a pillow, a rug, or a throw.

2. Stick to one or two faux fur items – three is already too many.

It is easy to overdo it with faux fur, so try to limit yourself to one or two items strategically placed in the room.

- When it comes to faux fur, less is more, says Jessica McClendon, an interior designer from Los Angeles. “It's a fine line to looking like a rock star. Just place one pillow on the sofa to add texture without making it look too heavy or rustic,” adds McClendon.

3. Pay attention to the tone and length of the fur

Look for longer-haired fur so it doesn't look like a bad copy. Look for rich tonal variation so it doesn't look monotonously gray.

If you are looking for light faux fur, cream shades are always better and look more natural than pure white.

4. Lighter faux fur for year-round use

If you live in a climate that is warm all year round, or you simply don't want to change your decor with the seasons, choose lighter colors: shades of gray, cream, beige, and nude. Light colors go well with a wide range of colors in all color schemes, especially with dark blue and pink.

5. Combine it with real materials

We've already said that fur warms up a space. Therefore, it is useful in modern spaces to make them warmer and more inviting. It combines well with silk, velvet, and heavy wool.

6. Start with the bedroom

Faux fur will make any bedroom more comfortable. Then you can place it in the living room where it's cozy to lie on the sofa. Don't hesitate to put a piece of fur on your office chair – fur will reflect light without diminishing the formal look of the office.

7. Keep it in places where people can touch it

This will surely make people want to visit again.
