Ulcinj is the new Makarska: BiH tourists are attracted to the beautiful city in Montenegro

Tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina have been visiting the Montenegrin coast more and more in the last five years, especially in the last three years, according to statistical data from Montenegrin tourism agencies, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

What was once Makarska for Bosnians and Herzegovinians is now Ulcinj for them.

The most interesting and romantic city on the eastern coast of the Adriatic is a true mosaic of civilizations. Historical facts say that the greatest world civilizations have crossed paths here through the centuries. It is the city with the most sunshine hours in the Mediterranean. The water is crystal clear, without large ships and waves, so there is no more pleasant place to swim in the entire Adriatic. The city is a true spa resort, writes NAP.

Zana Sarvan, director of the Ulcinj Tourism Organization, told the Patria news agency that there are several reasons why tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina are now more inclined to vacation in Ulcinj, or another coastal city in Montenegro, rather than on the Croatian coast. Montenegro, she says, is not stealing tourists from Croatia; guests go where they feel more comfortable.

- Ulcinj is attractive primarily due to the prices of food and accommodation, but also due to the excellent, diverse offer that we are preparing for our guests - said Sarvan.

This city has one of the largest beaches in Europe, stretching for 14 kilometers, but also a diverse culture in which everyone can find something for themselves. Restaurant food is varied and excellent, and those who buy groceries in supermarkets and prepare them in apartments have the same choice as in Sarajevo, as well as the prices of those groceries.

- Families with children enjoy our sandy beaches, young people have pine beaches with nice catering facilities, and believers have religious buildings where they can perform prayers - says Sarvan. Ulcinj is a city with three different confessions, so it is not surprising, she says, that everyone who visits this city feels equally safe.

- During the tourist season, the number of people in Ulcinj increases by as much as five times. But, conflicts never happen there. The city is safe, and we are making great efforts to ensure that - she adds.

An analysis from July this year shows that guests from 45 countries visited Ulcinj. It is clear, says Sarvan, that the largest number of tourists are from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo... They are not yet ready for elite tourism, so their focus is still on mass tourism. They admit that the drop in tourists from BiH this year was felt due to the holy month of Ramadan, but now that it is over, Montenegrins are again expecting a rush of tourists from our country, writes NAP.
