(Patria) - Ukrainian Air Force announced on Wednesday that a large group of Russian army drones was heading towards the Danube River estuary and proceeded towards the river port of Izmail near the border with Romania, Reuters reports.
Social media groups reported hearing air defense systems firing near two Danube ports - Izmail and Reni.
The governor of the southern Odesa region, Oleh Kiper, asked residents of the Izmail district to take shelter around 1:30 AM and canceled the air raid warning an hour later.
Ukraine's Danube ports exported about a quarter of its grain before Russia withdrew from a UN-backed deal ensuring safe passage for Ukrainian grain exports via the Black Sea. They have since become a major outlet, with grain being sent by barges to the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanța for further shipment.
The Russian attack on the port of Izmail increased global food prices in early August.
