Most Expensive Tourist Kiosk on Baščaršija, Never Opened, Removed

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, through the Department for General Administration and Inspection Affairs, carried out the dismantling and removal of an illegally placed temporary prefabricated-demountable structure located in Ćurčiluk mali bb, whose investor was the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board.

The dismantled structure was deposited at an adequate location where it will be physically protected from potential damage. The Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, as the investor of the structure, has a one-year deadline for its retrieval. The costs incurred by the removal and deposition procedure will be claimed by the Municipality from the investor through legal proceedings.

The permit for the temporary placement of this structure, issued by the competent municipal service to the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, expired on January 25, 2021. The Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board did not submit a new request for the placement of the structure, and the urban-construction inspector, in accordance with the Law on Spatial Planning, the Law on Inspection, and the Decision on the Placement of Temporary Structures, issued a removal order.

The Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board had previously requested an extension of the deadline on two occasions, promising that the structure would be put into operation. The first deadline set for them was September 4, 2021, and upon their insistence and promises that they were actively working on finding a solution, the municipal mayor, Mr. Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, extended the deadline for another ten days. After that deadline expired, a new extension for another ten days was requested, and they were accommodated, with the deadline extended until October 31, 2021. The Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board did not meet any of the set deadlines or agreements.

Furthermore, the structure has not been put into operation for three years. On November 1, 2021, in a repeated procedure, the urban-construction inspector issued a decision ordering the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board to immediately, upon receipt of the decision,
remove the temporarily placed prefabricated structure intended for a tourist info center, and on November 3, 2021, a Conclusion was issued allowing the enforcement of the decision. A 24-hour deadline was given.

As the investor did not comply with the decision, the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo proceeded with the forced removal of the structure on Friday, November 5, 2021. The dismantling and removal were completed yesterday, November 6, 2021.

Incidentally, this kiosk was paid for 250,000 KM.
