(Patria) - Employees of HE on Neretva have started activities to remove waste accumulated near the Jablanica Hydroelectric Power Plant dam after heavy rainfall in the previous period. The material is partly concentrated near the hydroelectric power plant dam, but also spread across the entire surface of the lake.
According to estimates, there are about 500 m3 (cubic meters) of floating debris, of which about 100 m3 have been removed so far.
Considering the technical conditions for operation and the amount of waste, the work on its removal will continue as conditions allow for execution in accordance with prescribed safety and environmental standards.
The accumulation of floating waste is a common occurrence and a consequence of high waters and torrential flows. Due to the forecast of new rainfall and snowmelt, additional debris can be expected to arrive in the lake.
Neretva Hydroelectric Power Plants regularly fulfill their obligation to remove floating waste immediately adjacent to the dams, using their own special boat for collecting debris and engaging an external contractor with a special crane and trucks for transporting the waste to the landfill.
