UK in UN Security Council: Calls for secession and a third entity are a risk to peace and stability

(Patria) - United Kingdom (UK) representative James Kariuki warned at today's UN Security Council session that divisive rhetoric, including calls for secession and a third entity, represents anti-Dayton moves, a risk to peace and stability in BiH.

- The UK thanks Schmidt for his dedicated service to peace and stability in BiH, as well as for his contribution to the implementation of the Dayton Agreement.

The Peace Implementation Council (PIC) will proceed with the selection and appointment of his successor. We reiterate our support for the High Representative with all his powers as the backbone of the civilian implementation of Dayton - Kariuki stated.

He emphasized that he is very concerned about the political situation in our country, highlighting parts of the report by High Representative Christian Schmidt stating that some political actors are "subverting democratic principles, obstructing legislative activities, and abusing constitutional safeguards, hindering progress on Euro-Atlantic integration, including the issue of state property."

Kariuki reiterated the importance of constitutional reform that reflects the needs of all citizens and implements the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.

- BiH and its future cannot be held hostage by politics of division; various actors are fueling ethnic and religious tensions for their personal agendas and inciting tensions in all communities in BiH.

Divisive rhetoric, including calls for secession and a third entity, represents anti-Dayton moves, a risk to peace and stability - warned Kariuki.

He called on all parties in the country to "reject narratives that deepen divisions and misrepresent the challenges the country faces."

He also reiterated that Dayton obliges all parties to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of BiH, adding that full respect for Dayton remains of key importance.
