(Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton will not allocate additional funds beyond the already foreseen 5.5 million KM for youth subsidies for apartment purchases. This was definitively confirmed today by the Prime Minister of SC Nihad Uk while a guest on N1 television.
Although according to the preliminary list, 1,141 applicants met the conditions, this would mean that each of them should receive 4,820 KM. This is far less than the 10,000 KM that was previously planned, and this year, due to the increase in real estate prices, that amount should have been around 12,000 KM.
Uk stated that the Ministry of Communal Affairs is currently processing objections and that the final number of young people who have qualified for the subsidy will be known in a few days, and the SC Government will determine the final subsidy amount.
He added that next year he will insist on changing the criteria, without clarifying what that will mean in practice. He also said that they will consider the possibility of co-financing young people who have not yet resolved their housing issues and are currently renting.
The former Minister of Communal Affairs and Infrastructure, Almir Bečarević, during whose term the public call was conducted, stated that on November 5th, he warned the SC Government that there would be a shortage of funds for all those who passed the public call. His estimate was 800 applications, but due to the period of as long as 15 months covered by the public call, a larger number of applications were received.
Speaking about the sale of Sarajevo Canton property, Uk stated that the sale of the Hotel Maršal on Bjelašnica will be considered first because Sarajevo Canton should not be involved in the hotel business.
He emphasized that there is no money in the SC budget to pay aid according to the Decree of the FBiH Government, but that salaries will be increased from January 1st.
