Uk: Sarajevo Canton takes responsibility for landslide remediation, machinery on site

(Patria) - By forming an advisory group consisting of representatives of the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Stari Grad, the Faculty of Forestry, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the Civil Engineering Institute and the Institute for Construction of Sarajevo Canton, the first more concrete steps have been taken in the remediation of the landslide in the Curine njive area.



- We have secured access roads, machinery is on site, and favorable weather conditions have allowed the preparatory works for the landslide remediation to start without delay - said the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk.

As he explained, benchmark points have been set up to monitor soil movement, and excavations have also begun to determine the depth of the landslide.



- The Faculty of Civil Engineering is intensively working on designing a long-term solution, while the main works will begin in May, when the terrain stabilizes and dries sufficiently - said Uk.

According to his words, protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Sarajevo Canton remains the primary goal of the Government of Sarajevo Canton.



Also, he adds, a reaction from higher levels of government is expected through the engagement of technical and human capacities.
