UK and Minister Hota-Muminović Host Bosnia and Herzegovina's Top Mathematicians After Major Success

(Patria) - Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk and Minister of Education and Upbringing of SC Naida Hota-Muminović today hosted part of the team from Bosnia and Herzegovina, which achieved exceptional success at the 64th International Mathematical Olympiad, the most prestigious mathematical competition in the world, held from July 3 to 13 in Japan, winning one silver medal, four bronze medals, and one honorable mention.

As in the past two years, the Government of Sarajevo Canton supported the departure of our mathematicians to the Olympiad this time as well, and as stated during the meeting, support will not be lacking in the future.

"Young people are the future of BiH, and this top result of our mathematicians obliges us to continue with financial support for their preparations and participation in international competitions. We will continue this practice in the future, so that our best students continue to achieve excellent results. I congratulate all our Olympians, you are the pride of BiH," said Uk.

The BiH Olympic team included Vuk Janković, Andrej Krčmar, Benjamin Mujkić, Ervin Macić, Mirnes Fehrić, and Harun Alibegović. In competition with 112 countries, BiH took 36th place, which is the same team result as the previous year and the best in the last 20 years.

"This is another top success that confirms that investing in young people always pays off. As before, in the coming years, we will continue to support the work of the Association of Mathematicians of Sarajevo Canton, which works with excellent students, as well as the work of school sections where the first gatherings and initial work with talented students take place. Every year, Sarajevo Canton provides monetary awards for the best competitors in the amount of annual scholarships, which entitles students to further apply for other scholarships. For a good competitor, it is necessary to allocate significant amounts throughout the year to maintain competitive form," said Minister Hota-Muminović, congratulating our mathematicians on another exceptional result.

We remind you that at this year's mathematical Olympiads, students from BiH won a total of 17 Olympic medals (one gold, five silver, and 11 bronze medals) and four honorable mentions. Nine students from Sarajevo Canton won 11 medals.
