UK: Regardless of political differences, citizen safety should be our common goal

(Patria) - On the occasion of the current security situation in Sarajevo Canton, Prime Minister of KS Nihad Uk sent a message to the citizens of KS regarding the latest unfortunate events in the Canton that directly affect the safety of all of us.

"The primary commitment of the Government is the safety of our citizens. We will continue to fight strongly and find solutions that will ensure our streets are safe for every individual. We will not allow fear or insecurity to overwhelm the public and for unverified information to be our daily narrative.

As I was informed by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton and the Police Commissioner of the Police Administration of the MUP of KS, the police are doing everything in their power to identify the perpetrators of recent incidents that have disturbed the citizens of Sarajevo Canton. Police presence on the ground has been increased, and our determination to maintain peace and security in our canton remains unquestionable. This is an opportunity to publicly thank the police officers who are working intensively to solve crimes.

As part of a systemic solution to security problems in Sarajevo Canton, I see the connection of sectors at all levels of government. Through effective cooperation and coordination of sectors, such as police, education, and health, we will create a better security environment. The KS Government has strengthened our police in terms of personnel and material resources in the past period. First, by hiring 200 police officers last year, 250 this year, purchasing cameras for the busiest intersections, and new static radars on the busiest streets. I believe that these multi-million investments in the police's personnel and material potential will very soon show their effects on street safety.

The safety of citizens in Sarajevo Canton should not and must not be a subject of political conflicts or disputes. The safety and well-being of all citizens must be a priority regardless of political affiliation. Only through the joint engagement of all political options and institutions at all levels of government will we create a stable and secure environment in which every citizen will feel protected and free. It is important to recognize that citizen safety is above all political interests and that we should direct all our energy at this moment towards its improvement.

Therefore, I call on everyone to overcome political differences and work together to solve the problems we clearly have. Safety on the streets, in institutions, and in society in general, should be our common goal. We will discuss this at an urgent session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, the date of which we scheduled today.

I call on citizens to remain calm and to help us maintain order and security. I am convinced that together we will overcome these challenges more easily," the Prime Minister's message states.
