Distinguished experts from BiH and Europe at scientific conference 'Biodiversity and Forestry'

On Monday, April 4, 2016, a scientific conference on the topic „Biodiversity and Forestry“ will be held in the building of the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo, organized by the Faculty of Forestry Sarajevo. Lectures will be given by eminent professors in the field of Forestry from Germany, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

One of the participants of the conference is Professor Ćemal Višnjić from the Faculty of Forestry, who told Patria that the aim of the conference is to inform the scientific and professional public about the results of new research in the field of protection, conservation, and improvement of biodiversity of forest ecosystems.

- The method of forest management in Bosnia and Herzegovina ensures the preservation of biodiversity to the greatest possible extent. However, the forestry profession must take a step further towards undertaking activities that lead to the sustainable development of plant and animal species present within forest ecosystems. This highlights the importance of this scientific conference, which on one hand provides theoretical foundations for improving forest management in the function of protecting and preserving biodiversity, and on the other hand refutes established claims that forestry as an economic sector negatively affects forest biodiversity – says Professor Višnjić.

The scientific conference also points to the urgent need for the adoption of the Law on Forests in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, without which all activities on the conservation and improvement of biodiversity of forest ecosystems would be futile.

Opening addresses to guests will be given by the Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahić, and the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Mirza Dautbašić.
