(Patria) - The hot topic of a sweltering Sarajevo Sunday is the extinguished fire in the Vraca Memorial Park.
First, the Mayor of Centar Municipality Srđan Mandić called out the Minister of Communal Economy Almir Bečarević, and then Bečarević responded to him.
The Mayor of Sarajevo Benjamina Karić also joined the discussion, proposing that the four city municipalities, the City Administration, and the relevant ministry share the gas financing.
However, Mandić and Bečarević did not comment on her reaction.
"Minister Bečarević, do you know which glorious names from our history rest eternally in the Vraca Memorial Park? I will tell you just one - Vladimir Perić - Valter!", reads the introduction to Mandić's response to Bečarević.
"Please, do not justify the extinguishing by high gas costs. Is the eternal flame in Titova Street next? I find it difficult to understand and accept that you do not grasp the significance of the monument at Vraca. I will not remind you that the budget of the ministry you lead is measured in tens of millions of marks, that losses due to illegal gas and water connections are in the millions. The Vraca Memorial Park can be financed and completely renovated easily and painlessly. It is a debt and obligation of our generation! But, you clearly do not want to, and I fear you are following the ideology of the former mayor of Sarajevo and his 'fight against anti-fascism', an ideology that kept the flame extinguished for 27 years, until we lit it in 2019, led by the great Raif Dizdarević. And we will light it again, be sure. Death to fascism, freedom to the people", Mayor of Sarajevo's Centar Municipality Srđan Mandić told the relevant minister Bečarević.
He soon received a response.
"Mandić, you are truly unhinged", Bečarević wrote.
"To conclude this dialogue. As for Skaka, I don't know why he's in the story now, but I do have a connection to the Skaka family. His grandfather circumcised me. That's all, and nothing more. I neither extinguished the flame nor terminated the contract. I don't need a lecture on anti-fascism, really. I won't explain to you now why it's not necessary. Anti-fascism lives and will live, and children are being killed in Ukraine with Russian gas. Think about it, Mandić. There's no need to debate the way money is spent from the ministry. 4,000 of our fellow citizens have already made their choice. Greetings, Mayor", Bečarević replied to Mandić.
