Association "Celebrate Recovery" Donated 2,500 KM

Addiction is one of the leading social problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The difficult social and economic situation, as well as transitional problems, have contributed to the spread of addiction, especially among young people. According to statistical data from the Public Institution Institute for Alcoholism and Other Toxicomania of Sarajevo Canton, the prevalence of drug use among elementary school students is up to 1 percent, and among high school students, it is between 5-15 percent. The Municipality of Centar pays special attention to the prevention of addiction and all forms of toxicomania. On this occasion, the Municipality of Centar supported this humanitarian project of the Association "Celebrate Recovery" with 2,500 KM, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

The Association "Celebrate Recovery" has launched the project "Let's Learn More for Our Children," within which awareness will be raised about the problem of addiction among citizens of the Municipality of Centar, communication skills and good relationships will be developed to prevent addiction, parents whose children attend elementary and high schools will be educated about the issue of addiction and ways to develop positive coping strategies for peer pressure, and the wider public will be informed about the problem of addiction through the printing of leaflets and media promotion.

Through the implementation of projects and contact with parents, teachers, and counselors, the Association has identified the need to expand the target group to include parents. A major problem is the insufficient information parents have about addiction prevention, the problem and types of addiction, as well as the harmful effects of certain drugs. Parents are often the last to find out that their child has experimented with drugs or has become addicted.

In line with the project activities, workshops and lectures for parents will be organized during October, which will be held at the premises of the Association at Danijela Ozme Street 11/2. Also, some activities will be held at the premises of schools that have expressed the need to involve a larger number of parents and school staff. The workshops cover the topic of addiction prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. After covering these topics, participants will be given instructions on how to transfer the acquired knowledge and information to their colleagues, parents, and teachers.

We remind you that in this year's budget of the Municipality of Centar, 300,000 KM has been allocated for the support of projects of non-governmental organizations and associations.
