Association Center for Women "Žar" Donated 1,500 KM

Elderly people in the Centar municipality, as well as in the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, face numerous problems, low pensions, loneliness, traffic communication, lack of services adapted to them... However, the Centar Municipality tries to help this population through numerous activities, thus financing the procurement of medicines, milk, bread, supporting home care projects... The latest in a series of projects supported by the Municipality, which aims to help this population, is the project of the Association Center for Women "Žar".

Namely, the project "Work with the elderly in the peripheral part of the Centar municipality", implemented by the aforementioned association, was supported by the Municipality with 1,500 marks. Within the project, an overview of the work done so far in the inclusion of the elderly was made, and the contribution to building social support services in the local community was analyzed.

During the association's eight years of work on the inclusion of the elderly in the local community, the goal was focused on building and strengthening non-institutional support services for the elderly with the support and understanding of the local community. This approach has achieved greater social inclusion, which has contributed to improving the quality of life of these individuals. The intention was to create equal access to services for all citizens of the municipality, and therefore new support models were organized through activities in the premises of the Local Community.

New models include, among others, semi-day care center projects, day centers, active citizen projects and day stays, inclusion of the elderly from the peripheral areas of the municipality, as well as the creation of other support services for individuals and groups so that the elderly can remain in their natural environment for as long as possible. The project expands the scope of responsibility of all community members who are part of the problem in protecting the elderly, but also part of the possible solution.

To this end, the Association "Žar" signed a cooperation agreement with the Center for Social Work of Sarajevo Canton. Within the project activities, cooperation was established with the Pensioners' Association "Centar", and in the coming period, the Association "Žar" will organize workshops in the premises of the Local Communities "Soukbunar", "Pionirska dolina - Nahorevo" and "Donji Velešići".
