Association Friends of BiH: The appointment of Poplašen throws this country to a moral bottom

The Association Friends of BiH expresses its dissatisfaction with the appointment of Nikola Poplašen as a member of the Management Board of the Agency for Higher Education of BiH, according to a statement from this association, which the Patria News Agency fully transmits.  

The appointment of the Chetnik duke Nikola Poplašen to the Management Board of the Agency for the Development of Higher Education of BiH throws this country to a moral bottom and demolishes the authority of our entire academic community and the strength of its independence to the foundations.

Poplašen was Karadžić's key man in Vogošća, where camps were opened and mass crimes against humanity were committed. It is enough to see this university professor in a photograph in a Chetnik uniform, with a knife at his belt and a submachine gun in his hands, to conclude what a public disgrace this is. 

Poplašen was not only discredited as a witness by the Hague Tribunal, but he experienced it in his own country. Only an untrustworthy and irresponsible policy could have rehabilitated him. His election to an academic position, where he can decide the fate of higher education in BiH, is the bottom from which there is no deeper.

If the state loses its moral norms and dimensions, it loses the strength of its institutions and its decisions are irrelevant.

It is time for our academic community to stand up against such and similar shameful political appointments.

It is time to unite against such politically inarticulate moves and to finally show itself as a factor that will correct the brutal outbursts of this society and direct Bosnia and Herzegovina towards a better future, rather than calmly observing these games without borders, games without morals and without responsibility, the Association's statement reads.
