Victims' Associations: How Can Kahrimanović Claim to Know How the Srebrenica Victims Were Liquidated?

(Patria) - Victims' and witnesses of genocide associations reacted to the statement made by Nedžad Kahrimanović, the brother of the murdered Amra, during today's protest march in Tuzla, where they once again reiterated the demand for the dismissal or resignation of the minister and director of the Tuzla Canton police, as well as all those responsible in the hierarchy.

- The Scorpions did not liquidate the Srebrenica victims in the way the state did to Amra. There is not an iota of empathy or political and social responsibility. They are indirectly the shooters when they do not do their job professionally. After Amra, there were two more murders and…? They only mitigate the damage - said Nedžad Kahrimanović.

In their response, the victims' and witnesses of genocide associations clearly stated that they support the citizens' right to peaceful protest and to present their demands.

However, they also believe it is important to avoid the misuse of a tragedy such as the Srebrenica genocide for political purposes or to achieve personal goals.

- Mr. Kahrimanović's statement about the manner in which the Srebrenica victims were liquidated raises serious concern. We ask whether Mr. Kahrimanović, unless he was present with the Scorpions, can truly claim to know how the Srebrenica victims were liquidated?

Such claims are offensive to the victims and their families, and we hope that Mr. Kahrimanović will consider the consequences of his words.

If Mr. Kahrimanović's goal is to gain media attention or to highlight the importance of the fight for justice, we appeal to him to stop misusing the tragedy of the Srebrenica genocide, as well as the death of his own sister.

There are other ways to highlight legitimate demands and the fight for justice without hurting feelings or manipulating victims. We support justice for Amra Kahrimanović and all other victims of violence, but we also call for respect for the basic principles of dignity and responsible public expression", the associations stated.

The joint response to Kahrimanović's statement was signed by the following associations: Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, Association Movement "Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves", Association "Women of Podrinje", Association "Women of Srebrenica", and Association "Mothers of Srebrenica".
