More Effective Public Audit to Reduce Corruption in BiH

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Centres of Civic Initiatives (CCI) are organising the Conference “More Effective Public Audit to Reduce Corruption in BiH“, held today in Sarajevo.

Public audits represent a significant control mechanism for the proper and efficient spending of public funds, while the implementation of audit recommendations can significantly reduce the space for the occurrence of corruption in public institutions. Practice has shown that public procurement and employment processes are the most risky when it comes to corruption, and in almost all audited institutions, audit offices point to weaknesses and give recommendations precisely in these areas. 

The conference aims, through the presentation of concrete examples and effects of (non-)implemented audit recommendations and dialogue with all relevant actors, to identify space for action aimed at increasing the degree of implementation of audit recommendations, along with improving existing control mechanisms and the role of competent parliamentary committees.

A specialised web portal will also be presented, focused on the topic of audit, i.e., control of spending of public money and the work of public institutions and enterprises in accordance with the law. An integral part of the portal is a database on financial audits conducted in BiH over the last 4 years. The portal will be available to the wider public from 24 January.
