Participants of the World Congress of Cardiac Surgery in Greece watched live two surgeries at KCUS led by Prof. Granov

(Patria) - Two surgical procedures performed with state-of-the-art methods were broadcast live in 3D technology via a link from the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery of the University Clinical Center of Sarajevo (KCUS) to the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery in Greece. More than 500 Congress participants were able to interactively participate and follow these surgical procedures.

The surgeries were performed by Prof. Dr. Nermir Granov, Director of Surgical Discipline, and Prof. Dr. Farhad Bakhtiary, Director of the University Clinic in Bonn, Germany. Rajko Spasojević, Director of LSI Solutions for Europe, and Robert Bartz, Vice President of LSI Solutions from the USA, attended the surgical procedures.

According to Spasojević, this is the first time that surgeries are being performed live outside the Congress venue, as two are being done at KCUS (one surgery on the aortic valve and the other on the mitral valve), and four in Greece.

- The first time I came to KCUS, I was positively surprised by the situation I found. I wanted to present minimally invasive endoscopic cardiac surgery to Prof. Dr. Granov. However, I realized that he has been practicing it for 10 years and that he applies world standards in cardiac surgery. The entire team of medical staff at the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery applies modern methods and procedures in patient treatment. Our company helped with the donation of a 3D endoscopic device so that the best specialist works with the best device," said Spasojević.

Mr. Bartz also praised the work and knowledge of the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery staff. He stated that there are not many places in the world where minimally invasive cardiac surgery is performed. He emphasized the expertise of Prof. Dr. Granov and Prof. Dr. Bakhtiary, who also pass on their knowledge to other surgeons.

Prof. Dr. Granov emphasized that KCUS has medical teams that can and want to perform all the most modern minimally invasive endoscopic procedures. He thanked the management of LSI Solutions and Prof. Dr. Bakhtiary.

Prof. Dr. Hajrija Maksic, acting General Director of KCUS, also spoke with representatives of LSI Solutions and Prof. Dr. Bakhtiary. On this occasion, she emphasized how important it is that KCUS is recognized as a medical center whose staff can and knows how to perform the most complex procedures and methods in cardiac surgery – it was announced from KCUS.
