(Patria) - The 14th Vukovar - Srebrenica Ultramarathon set off from Ovčara this morning. It is organized by the Council of the Bosniak National Minority of the City of Zagreb to commemorate all innocent victims of the Serbian aggression against the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially the victims of Vukovar and Srebrenica.

The marathon runners will cover 227 kilometers in five stages. Other runners will join them on certain sections. The ultramarathon runners are expected to arrive in Potočari on July 10.

- I am a war veteran with a disability, and it was my wish to connect the two largest sites of mass killings after World War II, and with the help of the Council of the Bosniak National Minority - they accepted my project and thank God - for the 14th consecutive year we are running for civilian victims from all three sides, said Duško Štrbac, a participant of the Vukovar-Srebrenica Ultramarathon.

- The main message is that we all must know what Srebrenica is, what Vukovar is, what happened, and that it should not be forgotten, said Mirsad Softić, a participant of the Vukovar-Srebrenica Ultramarathon.

Dražen Ćućić, a participant of the Vukovar-Srebrenica Ultramarathon, emphasizes that the victims they think about along the way give them strength.

"The Mothers of Srebrenica, who welcome us there every year, are our support. They give us strength on that journey."
