(Patria) - Students of class VIII-3 of 'Osman Nuri Hadžić' Elementary School will not attend classes from today until the issue with a student who has been threatening other students for an extended period is resolved.
"Namely, on November 17, 2025, a minor student from the aforementioned class once again issued serious threats that she would physically harm students in the locker room during Physical and Health Education class using a folding knife. This incident is only the latest in a series of continuous threats, physical and verbal violence that students have been exposed to for over a year.
During the same period, we have also witnessed violence directed at teaching staff, as well as frequent interruptions of classes, which prevents the normal conduct of the teaching process. As a result, students have not been exercising their right to safe, quality, and uninterrupted education for an extended period, as prescribed by law.
Over the past two years, we have repeatedly addressed the school administration, professional services, and the relevant ministry, but despite our reports and warnings, no effective step has been taken to resolve the problem. The parents of the aforementioned student have shown neither willingness to cooperate nor interest in overcoming the situation. It is important to note that 'Skender Kulenović' Elementary School previously had the same problem with the same student.
Due to the serious and immediate threat to the safety of our children, we are forced to make a decision that, as of November 18, 2025, students of class VIII-3 will not attend classes until, in accordance with the Law on Primary Education and the pedagogical measures available to the school, the minor student is transferred to another school. This decision was made solely to protect the children and prevent further violence.
We believe that institutions have a legal and moral obligation to ensure a safe educational environment and to take urgent and concrete measures in this case. Shifting the burden of responsibility onto children and parents is unacceptable and contrary to the basic principles of protecting students' rights.
We expect an immediate response from the competent authorities, institutional protection, and a permanent solution that will ensure the safety of students and a return to the normal teaching process," state the parents of VIII-3 students in a press release.
