Students in Bihać beat a girl with special needs

A group of students from Bihać beat an 11-year-old girl with special needs on Wednesday afternoon, after which the girl ended up in hospital and the entire case was handed over to the Bihać police, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The shocking case was reported to the news agency Patria by the grandmother of the unfortunate girl, Jasminka Samardžić-Baković, who also cares for little Samanta.

- This is the second physical attack by peers on Samanta in the last year and a half. The first time, boys pushed her and she broke her arm. Yesterday, they beat her to such an extent that we had to go to the doctor. She has been in shock since last night – says an outraged Jasminka.

Her granddaughter, whom she has been caring for for five years, suffered brain damage during childbirth, which causes the girl to have problems with her spine as well as mental health. However, Samanta is a great fighter and does not want to miss school, but due to the lack of an adequate institution for her, she must attend classes with healthy children. Teachers understand her health condition and demand less knowledge from her, which is a form of support for Samanta.

- Unfortunately, her peers do not understand this and very often mock her because of her illness. And, sometimes, as happened yesterday, they also beat her – Jasminka is outraged, adding that the principal and management of the Harmani 1 school claim they can do nothing regarding the complete protection of Samanta, because it is difficult to control children's mischief, and they do not consider themselves responsible for yesterday's attack because it happened outside the school fence.

Jasminka and her granddaughter have no income, they live on what friends give them and what Jasminka manages to earn while Samanta is at school. Also, they live in a dilapidated shack that the Municipality allocated to them for temporary use.
Jasminka is a demobilized soldier of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but even that does not help her to realize any rights.

Help from good people would be welcome for this brave woman, and they most need food and hygiene products.

Anyone who wants to help Jasminka and her granddaughter can contact them at phone number 062 116 306.
