First-grade students of Sarajevo Canton secondary schools on a journey through Bosnia and Herzegovina: They will visit Bosniak massacre sites, Ahmići, Kozarac, Prijedor, Bužim

(Patria) - First-grade students of secondary schools in Sarajevo Canton set off this morning on a four-day study trip "From War to Peace" organized by the Ministry of Education of Sarajevo Canton, during which they will visit the central, northern, and western parts of our country.

According to the travel plan, students will visit Fojnica, Vitez, Jajce, Bihać, Cazin, Velika Kladuša, Bužim, Bihać, Prijedor, Vlašić, and Travnik.

The students were joined on the trip by the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, and the Minister of Education of Sarajevo Canton, Naida Hota-Muminović, who emphasized that the commitment of the Sarajevo Canton Government is investment in youth and education.

"This is a new student standard. We want to provide students with the best possible opportunities so that tomorrow we can expect a brighter future for Bosnia and Herzegovina and our society. If we provide students with good opportunities, programs, projects, school infrastructure, and equipment, we are sure that we will create an environment that will be stimulating for them to work on their personal and professional development," said Minister Hota-Muminović, adding that students will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the natural and historical beauties of our country.

The study visit "From War to Peace" is one of 14 program activities registered in the area of the special program "Culture of Remembrance," spanning from kindergarten to the end of secondary school.

Students will, among other things, have the opportunity to visit the Franciscan monastery, tour the martyr memorial at the Donja Mosque in Ahmići, visit the Old Town of Ostrožac, the grave of General and hero of the defensive-liberation war Izet Nanić, the Museum of the 505th Bužim Brigade, Una National Park, the martyr memorial Kamičani, the town square in Kozarac...

"Students will have the opportunity to attend history lessons. The role of the Fifth Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be particularly emphasized; they will visit the Memorial Room of General Izet Nanić. This is a large outdoor classroom; everything they learned in elementary school and will learn in secondary education, from natural sciences, social sciences, and exact sciences, they will have the opportunity to see on site. It has proven to be a good project fully funded from the budget of the Ministry of Education of Sarajevo Canton, and we believe that everything we invest now in our children represents a real investment. We are sure that these children will be creatives, that they will contribute to their homeland, nurture peace, tolerance, and coexistence, and that they will get to know each other," said Minister Hota-Muminović.

The Institute for the Development of Pre-University Education of Sarajevo Canton is responsible for coordinating these activities, all with the aim of fostering a culture of remembrance and memory.

Prime Minister Uk emphasized that this is one of the more important projects, as the commitment of the Sarajevo Canton Government is investment in youth and education, through infrastructure, school equipment, and investment in teachers.

"This study program, which has been ongoing since this school year, and our intention is to expand it in the coming years to other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, so that students during their secondary education can visit all parts of our country. That is the best way to get to know the beauties of our homeland," said Prime Minister Uk.
