UBORAK SPREADS, CITIZENS IN SHOCK: Đapo Refused to Issue a Permit Based on the Same Study, Then Issued It!

(Patria) - The Federal Ministry of Tourism and Environment, headed by Edita Đapo (SBB), who claimed to be on the side of citizens, has positively assessed the Environmental Impact Study and issued an environmental permit for the disposal of solid municipal waste and the expansion of the landfill at JP Deponija Mostar Uborak-Buđevci!

The City of Mostar stated that the preparation of the Environmental Impact Study for the disposal of solid municipal waste and the expansion of the landfill at JP Deponija Mostar Uborak-Buđevci is the first step in implementing the Adaptation Plan for the regional landfill Uborak-Buđevci.

In May 2021, Đapo refused to issue any permits, but in December 2021, based on the same Study, the SBB minister issued an environmental permit.

Because of this, the association 'Jer nas se tiče' has filed a lawsuit and is seeking the annulment of this environmental permit.

"That Study noted the negative impact of Uborak on human health and the environment," activist Amna Popovac told Patria.

She adds that a permit was issued for opening the fourth and fifth cells, which are smaller than the previous three, but they are still new, and this is called expansion!

"This is proof that the new City Council, led by the mayor, says one thing and does another. They all signed before the elections that they would work on closing the Uborak landfill, and now we see they are working on keeping the landfill where it is. This is a great harm, and many people will die because of it, but they don't care!" Popovac emphasizes.

Incidentally, today the Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, will hold a meeting with representatives of the association 'Jer me se tiče'.

It is strongly suspected that a political game forced Minister Đapo to change her stance.

We recall that the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) published a document on its official website on April 29, 2021, giving the City of Mostar, in southern BiH, a three-year deadline to close the disputed Uborak landfill.

And now they are issuing a permit for its expansion!

The Uborak landfill was built in the 1960s. It was intended for the disposal of municipal waste from the area of the City of Mostar. In recent years, the landfill has become a regional waste disposal site and threatens the health of the population.

Terrible odors spread for kilometers, garbage is scattered uncontrollably, and the wider area around the landfill is littered with bags and various waste. A healthy life near the landfill is impossible, and the scenes that residents of surrounding settlements witness daily are horrifying.
