Ragweed pollen present in the air: Experts warn citizens

(Patria) - The presence of ragweed pollen, one of the strongest allergens, has been confirmed in the Sarajevo Canton area, announced the Center for Ecology and Natural Resources "Academician Sulejman Redžić".

According to the monitoring report, pollen concentrations range between 5 and 20 grains per cubic meter, which is considered relatively low values, but even these amounts can cause pronounced discomfort in sensitive individuals.

“Ragweed pollen causes sneezing, nasal congestion and runny nose, itching and watery eyes, as well as difficulty breathing and worsening of asthma,” the Center points out.

Citizens suffering from allergies are advised to avoid being outdoors in the morning and during windy hours, to ventilate rooms in the evening, and to regularly monitor reports on pollen concentration. In case of worsening symptoms, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

The relevant ministry emphasizes that the most effective way to remove ragweed is to pull the plant out by the roots. After that, it is necessary to dispose of the collected plant material in bags and dispose of it at landfills.

“Regular removal of ragweed from public and private areas is key to protecting public health. We appeal to citizens and competent services to intensify activities on its removal,” stated the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of the Sarajevo Canton.
