Ceremonial academy in Zenica marking 109 years of social democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina

ZENICA, (Patria) - The ceremonial academy marking 109 years of social democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina is underway at the National Theatre in Zenica.

The SDP BiH reminds that the party was founded and developed on the basis of European and Bosnian-Herzegovinian social democracy, the workers' and peasants' movement, the lessons and messages of the National Liberation Anti-Fascist Struggle (1941-1945), the positive values of social development after the Second World War, on the foundations of the reformist-democratic breakthrough of the League of Communists and the Union of Reform Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, towards multi-partyism – political and economic democracy.

They emphasize that today's SDP BiH traces its roots to the Social Democratic Party of BiH, founded in 1909, as, they stated, “an expression of the political needs of the working class” and an attempt to overcome the mono-national character of political organization and inter-ethnic polarization and confrontation.

They also add that the Social Democratic Party continued its continuity in the process of fighting for the preservation of common life, political sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of BiH (1992-1995), and afterwards within the framework of the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the struggle for the establishment of a democratic society and state based on social justice and equality, solidarity and responsibility towards others, the Patria agency reports.
