22 people killed in earthquake in Turkey

TURKEY, (Patria) - Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said on Saturday morning that after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the city of Elazig in the east of the country on Friday, 39 people were rescued from under the rubble. The total number of fatalities is 22. More than 1,000 people were injured. 

In the city of Elazig, rescue operations are still ongoing under the rubble of three buildings. Numerous rescuers are participating in rescue operations in the region. 

The earthquake was also felt in the surrounding cities of Adana, Hatay and Osmaniye, as well as in the northern parts of Syria and Iraq.

Numerous officials sent telegrams of condolence to the Turkish president and the Turkish people over this tragedy.
