Dictionary of the Bosnian Language by Academician Dževad Jahić Promoted in Zagreb

(Patria) - The Coordination of County Councils, the City of Zagreb Council and representatives for counties of the Bosniak national minority in Croatia - as hosts, and the Council of the Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of the Zagreb City Libraries, held a promotion of the capital work of the late Dževad Jahić - the multi-volume encyclopedic Dictionary of the Bosnian Language.

On behalf of the publisher of the Dictionary - the Council of the Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals - Secretary General Emir Zlatar addressed the audience, emphasizing that after the death of Academician Jahić last year, the strength was mustered to assemble a team that continued work at the beginning of this year, so that the preparation of the XII and XIII volumes of the Dictionary is underway.



The final completion of the work is planned within the next 7-8 years, when the completion of this capital project, which according to preliminary projections will consist of XX volumes of the Dictionary, is expected.

Guests and attendees at the promotion were welcomed by the President of the Coordination, Adis Keranović, and on behalf of the City Library, Jasna Kovačević delivered words of welcome.

A professional and scientific review of the significance and importance of the multi-volume Dictionary was provided by the promoters Dr. Ermina Ramadanović, Senior Research Associate at the Institute for the Croatian Language in Zagreb, Dr. Alen Kalajdžija, Scientific Advisor at the Institute for Language of the University of Sarajevo, and Dr. Haris Ćatović, Research Associate at the Institute for Language of the University of Sarajevo.

A brief review of the significance and importance of the Dictionary was given by Prof. Dr. Remzija Hadžiefendić-Parić, whose presentation was read at the promotion as she was unable to attend due to a death in the family.

The promotion was moderated by Tarik Hajdarević.



The Secretary General of the Council of the Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals, Emir Zlatar, presented a letter from the President of the Council of the Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals donating the previously published XI volumes of the Dictionary of the Bosnian Language to the Zagreb City Libraries and the Coordination of Bosniak County Councils in Croatia, and handed over one complete set of the XI volumes of the Dictionary.

In addition to admirers of literature and language, the promotion was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Croatia, the Secretary of the Ministry of Justice in the Government of Croatia, and diplomats from the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zagreb.
