Streptococcus appears in kindergartens, parents testing children, no reason for fear

In Vogošća, at the kindergarten Trešnjica which is part of the public institution „Djeca Sarajeva“, parents have been warned to test their children for streptococcus bacteria, as it has appeared in kindergartens, writes the news agency Patria.

However, Mirjana Jovanović-Halilović, director of the public institution „Djeca Sarajeva“, says that a child with streptococcus very often appears in the kindergarten, but that then the educators warn all parents to get tests done because it is transmitted through droplets and it would be good for everyone to get a test for their child's sake.

- We have no alarming problems. It very often happens that a carrier is someone who has no symptoms at all. Therefore, it is necessary for all children in the group to get tested. These are classic kindergarten diseases that happen very often – says Jovanović-Halilović.

She further notes that in winter, a case of streptococcus appears occasionally, but that it is nothing that should be concerning.

Given that the measles epidemic is still in effect in most of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jovanović-Halilović notes that fortunately they have not had such cases so far.

- We have not had measles, occasionally a case of chickenpox appears, but even then we inform the parents – added Jovanović-Halilović.
