Vogošća to get the most modern education center for persons with intellectual disabilities by year-end

By the end of the year, Bosnia and Herzegovina will get the most modern education center for persons with intellectual disabilities - Sumero, which is opening in Vogošća, and whose construction will cost around 600,000 BAM, and which will accommodate about 50 people, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

Haris Haverić, director of the Federation of Organizations for Support of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities of FBiH - Sumero, who organized a reception for journalists and donors at the facility in Vogošća today, explained that the construction of this center is in its final phase - complete rough works have been finished, and at this moment, another 100,000 BAM is needed to complete the finishing works, after which the center will start operating. And that will happen, he said, by the end of this year.

- Sumero is an educational center for persons with intellectual disabilities, where our beneficiaries are educated for a more independent life - said Haverić.

- Therefore, Sumero is not a center where persons with intellectual disabilities will permanently reside. This is a center where they will be able to receive the necessary training on how to use household appliances, how to eat independently... Finally, after training in this center, persons with intellectual disabilities will be able, with our minimal help, to be trained for independent living.

The Sumero Center is currently located in Sutjeska Street in Sarajevo, and during December it will move to a new facility in Vogošća. The new Sumero center was entirely built from donor funds, and the largest donors are Raiffeisen Bank, the tile manufacturing company Tondach, and Securitas BH - the largest group of private security agencies for persons and property in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project for the new Sumero center was done by architect Amir Vuk Zec, and it has the appearance of hands in a hugging position, which symbolizes that everyone is welcome in this center, writes NAP.
